First note: watch out for David Flint Wood’s posturing in Ping-Pong. He sizes up his opponent, steps back slowly adjusting his stance, wiggles his hips and spins out a devastating serve – after which he kindly offers you a drink. This sums up only one of Harbour Island’s many delights. Most notably, of course, would be hanging out with India Hicks and David Flint Wood.

As I looked out on the waves from my hammock, I was inspired by of all the shades of blue emanating from the cross sections of the ocean. I thought how beautiful they would be in hues of indigo blankets which could never be truly realized in all their brilliance in production. Long drawn out mornings lead up to Sip Sip for lunch, then after lunch our afternoons are clouded by bombay smashes. Thank God the only way around this tiny island is by golf cart.  And don’t miss India’s shop for whatever you forgot and didn’t know you needed.

I suggest taking a day to rent a whaler and find Man Island – but watch out for the sand bars. Once you find your destination, you are free to snorkel and hunt shells on deserted beaches. My favorite spot for dinner is the Dunmore right down from India’s houses. It was recently remodeled by Lindroth Design – I even found our napkins in the restaurant.

India was kind enough to take us paddle boarding with her shop partner Linda. India brought Domino her daughter and Banger her dog along for the ride. The intrepid dog even caught a ride on my pal Tom’s board whom had never paddle boarded before!

Most of all I have to thank India and David for having me as their guest at Hibiscus Hill – their homes, which can be rented by the week. They have two beautiful British colonial numbers near the beach and one in town, which David has redone in his relaxed have-a gin-and-tonic style. They also have a house on nearby Windermere Island originally built in 1967 by India’s father THE David Hicks. I am proud to say that the Windermere house now features my linens.
